Scenes from a move

It feels like it's been a million years since our last post, but I see from the blog that it has only been a month. And what a month it has been! The move to Providence was epic. We never in a million years imagined that we would fill two 14-foot trucks to the gills and still not get absolutely everything -- we've still got two office chairs, two folding chaise lounge outdoor chairs, a bike, and a diaper genie back in Brooklyn; it's debatable which we've been missing the most--the office chairs or the diaper genie, p.u.! We're very much still digging out. Slow and steady wins the race, though, and here are a couple of photos that have been carefully staged to make it look like we're not actually living in squalor:

Our new place has oodles of space--two floors, five bedrooms, two bathrooms, and three other nooks that are basically rooms without doors. We've got 7 windows in the living room alone, with tree tops out every window. A small but totally shady and breezy backyard with a table where we can eat dinner. The only thing it's lacking is central air, which has been a pretty big adjustment. It gets plenty steamy here--will be about 90 all week, according to the forecast--and although we have 6 window units, there are still parts of the apartment that feel like a furnace. Mainly, the kitchen.

The kids have been pretty great through the transition. Here they are at the little kiddie table we've got set up in the kitchen.

And this one is from when we were staying at my Dad's while we waited for our landlords to re-paint the upstairs (long story, not that interesting, but we were homeless for about 5 days after arriving--many thanks to Poppy and Caraway for hosting us so graciously and generously).

Their sleep has been a little off. For two solid weeks they were both up at 5:30 every day, and Lil still will only nap if she's in the stroller or car seat, so this is a familiar scene:

We've done lots of fun things--going to the beach in Newport, playing in the water fountain and dancing (aka jumping) to bluegrass at the weekly farmer's market, and visiting the swan boats and carousel in Roger Williams Park with Poppy:

And some good old-fashioned al fresco dining:

Lil has been to a pizza party at her new school and she was so excited by her new classroom I could hardly get her out of it.

And Teddy is learning a new word seemingly every day. Since we've been here he's started saying door, boat, shoes, juice, cheese, shhh, dada, and the ever popular no. His favorite activity at the moment is standing inside the open refrigerator and trying to open everything up. I totally get it -- it's the coolest spot in the house.

While we're still getting settled, we're ready for visitors whenever you're ready to come!
