A three hour tour

Two weekends ago we hopped on a ferry to Governor's Island, which was a Coast Guard base from 1966 to 1996 and is now slowly getting turned in to public space. It's got an incredible setting -- just off the Southern tip of Manhattan, with fantastic views of Wall Street, the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn, Ellis Island, and New Jersey. The ferry ride was free and took all of 5 minutes.
Here's Lil kickin' it with Manhattan as a backdrop:

It threatened rain for a few minutes, but never actually happened:

Lil brought her purse, just in case. It has an old Chapstick that she loves to open and close, open and close, some old library cards of mine, and a beaded necklace that's usually good for about five minutes of quiet.

In other news, she had her 18 month check up last week, and she weighs 25 pounds and is 32 inches tall.

Her mother used to LOVE playing with my briefcase (American Tourister model)which contained some business cards, some old checks, a notary public seal and some phone message pads.

The apple does not fall far from the tree!
